On Friday 28th October we all (with granny) went up to Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Walthamstow with Hei Mun to see Wonderful Town, another All Star Production. It was very good.
This production company and venue keep coming up with the goods. American musicals never or rarely-seen here, often despite having been big hits or written by big-hitters; this one from 1953, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Comden and Green. The musical was good - traditional old style, with proper songs and witty dialogue and lyrics and a plot that didn't bear too much analysis and a happy ending - and well sung, danced and acted. Best was Lizzie Wofford in what was the Rosalind Russell role.
Sixty seats, cast and crew at least a third of that number; I don't know how these productions, theatres and individuals make a living, but I guess they do. (For individuals, I guess other jobs, in or out of the industry.)
